Week of October 23

Grades K-3 and 4 are learning several new songs.  The songs are designed to help children acquire new vocabulary.  Please ask your child to sing the songs for you.  They know, "Calabaza" quite well.  The children have learned songs for family members, days of the week, numbers,  animals .and weather.  I read a story in Spanish to the class.

K-5  Children are also learning new songs to acquire targeted vocabulary.  We talked about their costumes in Spanish. I read a story in Spanish to the class.

Grade 1 We reviewed our nature vocabulary and Spanish expressions.

Grade 2  Grade 2 took their Spanish expressions test.  Everyone was engaged so I am hoping for excellent results.  This group of children is so studious!  They love taking tests.

Grade 3  Students worked with their vocabulary   flashcards. I would like them to study their flashcards in order to master new vocabulary.

Grade 4  Students worked on an activity sheet to learn the use of the two forms of "you" in Spanish.  I would like them to study the sheet, which  we corrected in class,  and try to create sentences in Spanish with each of the eighteen items on the list.  They did an awesome job with this activity.

Grade 5  Students worked on an activity sheet to learn the use of informal and formal pronouns to express the two forms of 'you" in Spanish.  Each student gave examples orally in class.  We will compose a dialogue next week using the activity sheet.

Grade 6  Students read their dialogues and completed a sheet to learn how to correctly use the two forms of "you" in Spanish.  Several students composed dialogues which reflect a very advanced knowledge of Spanish grammar.  I am proud of all of the students.

See you at Eaglefest!

October 16

Grade K-4  The children learned two new songs.  Some classes received a paper napkin with a pumpkin image on the front.  This will help them remember the words to the song.

K-5  Students  used animal stickers to create a face and clothing on one of four animals.  The instructions are always given in Spanish with an emphasis on the target language structures and vocabulary.  We had so much fun!

Grade 1  Students learned a song about a jack o'lantern.  We had a coloring contest and prizes were awarded.  We reviewed body parts.

Grade 2 We reviewed greetings and expressions. I will give students an oral evaluation next week.
Oral evaluations are ongoing so it is not necessary for students to study specifically for the exam on Monday.  Also, we have been reviewing the vocabulary sheet for a number of weeks now and I feel students have acquired mastery of the specific expressions.  Of course students may review the sheet if they wish.  There was a problem with classwork homework folders so I will provide students  with a special Spanish Only Homework Folder.

Grade 3  Students  brought their flashcards back to study in class with a partner.  They received a new set of flashcards to assemble at home and bring to class on Monday.  New vocabulary includes 24 parts of the body.  We  will be using the cards on Monday so please make sure your child has his/her cards.

Grade 4  Students retook their Spanish greetings and expressions test. We had a coloring and composition  contest to complete at home for a prize.  The contest has two parts: Color or decorate the picture of a jack o' lantern using any media then write a descriptive paragraph or two in Spanish which describes the student's artwork. Both parts must be brought to class in order to be entered in the contest. This is  not a school wide contest.

Grade 5 Students presented their  homework dialogues.  For next week, students need to create five dialogues of 8 lines each about any topic they wish.  I encourage the use of descriptive adjectives from the list they received in class.

Grade 6
Students presented their new dialogues.  Homework is to prepare 3 long dialogues of 8 lines each for next week. Dialogues may be on any topic students wish, but should include adjectives from the list received in class.  Call me if you have any questions.

Have a great weekend.

Mrs. Linda

Please let me know if you are using this blog.  I only saw two parents' responses.  The new system also allows us to post homework and most teachers are only using that new system.

October 2, 2017

K-4  Students reviewed parts of the body using Pirates and princesses stickers.

K-5 No class.  Students  were on a field trip.

Grade 1  We discussed the students' La naturaleza activity homework sheeet.

Grade 2 Students reviewed a list of essential Spanish expressions.  I will retest them at a later date since we did not have time to cover all of the expressions  We only have thirty minutes of class this year.

Grade 3 Students received a sheet of geometric forms to cut out and make into vocabulary flash cards. They should bring the completed set to class next week.

Grade 4  Students will be retested on the list of Spanish expression they received three weeks ago.

Grade 5  Students need to prepare/compose five mini-dialogues using adjectives from the list they received three weeks ago.

Grade 6  Students need to prepare/compose five mini-dialogues using the list of adjectives they received three weeks ago.

Note:  Students  MUST bring their notebooks or special Spanish folder to  EVERY  class. Many students are coming to class without materials.  We do not have a textbook so the handouts they receive function as their textbook.  Please do not throw away any Spanish activity sheets or sets of vocabulary and reference materials.  Thank you.
